One Word:
Happy new year! It’s officially the year which means it’s time to set new goals. I have decided to apply the “One Word” method, introduced by Jon Gordon -- where I chose one word to direct my 2024 year. To choose my word, I broke it down into 3 steps:
1: Determining The Person I Want To Become: I want to become a person who is patience when it comes to complicated situations and to not give up when it doesn’t go my way.
2: Identify The Characteristics Of That Person: Resilience, determination, hardworking, and accuracy.
3: Pick A Word: I choose the word “Persevere”
So what exactly do I mean by persevere? Defined by the Oxford Dictionary, to persevere means “persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success”. When applying this word to myself however, I want to become more persistent. My goal is to persevere when things get hard, whether it’s an assignment I'm anxious to get the grade back to, colleges getting back to me about my acceptance, or a situation not going my way. My goal is to be persistent enough to put forth my best effort every time without cutting corners in order to give my best performance.
Vision Board:
Having a vision of your future is important because it provides a sense of direction and purpose for yourself. It helps to set goals, and motivates you to work towards them. A specific vision will help you stay focused on what truly matters to you.
A vision board is a visual representation of your goals you plan to achieve. It usually includes images, words, and symbols that represent the life you want to create or goal you want to achieve. The purpose of a vision board is to reinforce your goals, create a visualization, and create a positive mindset. By referring back to your vision board, you can align your thoughts and actions with the future you want for yourself, creating a greater sense of commitment and determination to achieve your dreams.
For my vision board, I included my word “persevere” at the center since it is the word I want my year to revolve around. I also included a picture of my dream car and places I want to travel. I mentioned my dream college: The Ohio State University where I desired to major in Chemistry or Neuroscience. Additionally, I included pictures of my religion: Islam because I’d like to get closer to Allah (God) as I get older. I also included a picture of money as I want one of my focuses to be saving money. Lastly, I included a picture of a surgery, because I’d like to become a Pediatric Surgical Oncologist. Let's all hope I can get there.
