Mentor Experience:

This week at my mentor site Dr. Thomas Sweeney and I have been debriefing about each patient. He was able to teach me about Lymphatic Cancer that is located in the lymph nodes in the armpit, neck, or groin. I was always amazed to know that there’s two types of lymphoma. Hodgkin lymphoma is lower  at risk than non-Hodgkin lymphoma. One reason may be that non-Hodgkin lymphoma is often diagnosed when the cancer is more advanced. Dr. Sweeney had also taught me how to feel for lymphoma nodes. By gently pressing around the area, such as the side of the neck. Swollen lymph nodes will feel like soft, round bumps, and they may be the size of a pea or a grape. They might be tender to the touch, which indicates inflammation. With this information I am able to indicate this not online in medical school, but also in everyday life.

Lymph Nodes

With mentoring coming to the end I have been focusing on my learning goals. I have almost achieved 50 mentoring hours along with being able to time manage and plan my work and mentoring accordingly. I have developed communication skills by introducing myself to most people in the workplace. I hope during the 2nd semester I’m able to explore 4 medical positions while at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Thanksgiving

As the season of  Thanksgiving is approaching I’m grateful for my family, friends, and mentors who have made my life better in so many ways. My family has always been there, supporting and loving me unconditionally. They've provided a strong foundation and taught me valuable lessons. My friends bring laughter and fun into my life, creating unforgettable memories. They've been there through thick and thin, offering support and understanding. My mentors have guided me, sharing their wisdom and helping me grow personally and professionally. They've inspired me to reach for my dreams and achieve my goals. Each person has brought their unique qualities and perspectives, enriching my life in ways I can't even put into words. I'm truly grateful for all of them.

Spending Thanksgiving With My Friends

An experience that I'm grateful for is traveling. I love traveling to different countries. It has broadened my perspective and allowed me to appreciate different cultures. It has taught me to be open-minded and accepting of others. Volunteering in my community has shown me the power of giving back and the importance of kindness. It has helped me develop empathy and compassion for others. Pursuing my hobbies and passions has allowed me to express myself creatively and discover new talents. It has boosted my confidence and taught me the value of perseverance. Overall, these experiences have shaped me into a more well-rounded and empathetic person.

Even being grateful comes with facing some challenges that helped me grow and become stronger. One of the challenges I'm grateful for is overcoming a fear of public speaking in middle school. It was tough at first, but by pushing myself to face that fear, I learned to be more confident and articulate. This challenge has shaped me into a stronger person and has given me the tools to overcome adversity. I'm grateful for these goals because this is what has helped me grow and become the person I am today.
